The Irishman whose life’s work is going up in flames in Boston. A carpenter by trade, his true talent lies in carving grand nautical figureheads, the lifelike depictions of mermaids, sea legends, and such. The type found in wild defiance at the prows of the mighty, masted sailing ships of yore. Clippers and galleons. Pirate ships.
Only now, that life he’s worked for is all but—gone.
One of America’s first female Army Rangers, and the girl who got away. She’s only returned to Boston to sell off her family’s multi-million dollar business. She doesn’t expect to stay any longer than it takes to sign on the dotted line. Colby has a life to live, a proud life, and she intends to live it—her way. Only now she’s wondering why Ash Callahan’s nude figurehead of the Irish Pirate Queen, Grace O’Malley, looks just like her?
I read this story in just one sitting and I really, really liked it. I give it 4 STARS.
I received a copy for an honest review. I give Ash and Colby 4 Stars.
As the first female army ranger, Colby was strong, tough, and loyal. Ash was brash, pining, and full of Irish brogue. I loved the way they each learned the little things about one another as they got closer to one another. It was like opening one of those little fancy boxes that has multiple little doors and drawers, special little surprise hiding places, or like a nesting doll. I thought the story was mapped out logically and flowed smoothly, the characters believable and the suspense a perfect mix of emotions.
Another review from my list of past reads.
This is my first book in this series and I liked it a lot. Lydia has lost so many and wants to keep her son Logan safe. She is a witch, mom, healer, but also the demon slayer. To keep her son safe, she won’t let anything stand in her way, not even Zach, the sexy warlock who wants to stop her. I liked the interplay between these two and the element of Zach’s dark secret.
His darkest secret is revealed while her greatest fear comes to life.
New mother and Divinity, Lydia Rayners, is no stranger to heartache and loss. Her father, husband, and brother were taken from her by the demons, and now they want her son. Lydia will never let that happen, and she is determined to bring them down one by one—by herself if necessary. Her plans are going well until a certain sexy deputy discovers that she’s the rumored demon slayer and is hell-bent on stopping her.
Witch and deputy sheriff, Zach Manus, has run from his past for too long and it’s catching up to him now. He’s determined to keep his dark family secret hidden as he fights for control over his emotions and growing powers. His darker side controlled him once before, and he won’t let it happen again. But the closer he gets to Lydia, the more the darkness threatens to consume him, just as the gorgeous Divinity consumes his thoughts and threatens his resolve.
Zach is powerless to resist her, and while Lydia may understand him like no other, trusting her might unleash a new dark power that could destroy them both and put everyone they love in danger in the process.
A STORM IS BREWING…
Remy Boudreaux is back in his hometown, New Orleans. He’s there with three of his fellow Dallas SWAT officers for a week of training with the NOLA PD. On the eve of a tropical storm, Remy and his buddies prowl the French Quarter. One tantalizing scent captures Remy’s senses, forcing him to follow until he is face to face with Triana Bellamy—his beautiful high school crush.
After reconnecting, Remy and Triana are close—very. Remy struggles to keep things casual. Ever since his partner—and first love—was killed on the job, he’s kept women at a distance.
But when a mysterious wolf pendant ropes them both into danger, Remy’s protective instincts kick in. He may have to reveal his true self…and hope Triana accepts him.
While I did enjoy Ms. Evan’s work as usual, there were times that I felt the story dragged just a bit with the repetition of stating the reasons why these two should not have their HEA. Alex and Hestia both had their baggage. Alex’s demons being his over indulgence in women and his drugs of choice and Lady Hestia’s long infatuation with the hero who saved her lo those any years ago. When they sail off to adventure and locating the lady’s father, we get a story well worth the reading.
The blurb from Goodreads:
A lovestruck lady charms the duke of her dreams during an expedition on the high seas in this sexy, swashbuckling novel from USA Today bestselling author Bronwen Evans.
Alexander Sylvester Bracken, Duke of Bedford, has a mission: sail to the Mediterranean and track down Lady Hestia Cary’s missing father. It is a straightforward task, but for two rather vexing complications. First, the sea holds painful memories; second, for her own safety, Hestia is to accompany him. As Alex battles the demons of his past, he must also resist Hestia’s surprisingly skillful attempts at seduction. After all, Alex has sworn to leave her untouched, and he intends to honor that vow—until he can properly ask the Earl’s blessing.
Ever since His Grace rescued Hestia from the arms of a Turkish pirate six long years ago, her heart has belonged to Alex. So when he agrees to help find her father, Hestia is thrilled. Although Alex tries to hide it, there’s passion in his eyes—and a frisson of desire in the air—whenever they meet. On board ship, miles from home, Alex won’t be able to deny her any longer. But with scoundrels lying in wait, she may not live to tell the tale of her conquest.
Last Chance Summer
A Short Story
by Hope Ramsay
Amazon’s blurb for this story:
It wouldn’t be summer without the Watermelon Festival, and single mom Amanda Wright is looking forward to a carefree day eating funnel cakes and sipping sweet tea. But with her inquisitive son and elderly grandmother in tow, she’s not in the mood for carnival rides or the kissing booth, until she hears a charming, funny voice over the loudspeaker.
Grant Trumbull is the new DJ at the local radio station, and his deep, booming cadence has all the ladies of the church auxillary atwitter. Even without seeing his face, Amanda can’t help but wonder if he’s the one for her. When she finally comes face to face with the man behind the mic, summer is about to get a whole lot hotter in little Last Chance, South Carolina.
And my thoughts: For a 55 page story, this quick read still packed a punch and had the ability to draw me into Amanda’s life and made me want to read more about granny, Ethan, the colorful characters from the radio and most of all, Grant. Who wouldn’t want to have that smooth voice whispering sweet nothings in their ear.
Thanks for reading and if you are looking for a sweet summer story, you can’t go wrong with this one.
I’m spending a little time catching up on reviews for books I read quite a while ago. I hope you all enjoy being reminded of these books that may be a little older and if you haven’t read them, try picking one up. I think you will enjoy them.
The blurb for this book goes something like this:
Everything she knew about Zac was a lie.
The sexy Marine Becca had fulfilled her every fantasy of being tied up, spanked and dominated… for a weekend. The fling came to an end, Zac went off to war and died for his country, and Becca learned she carried a child who would be born without a father. Seven years later, Becca’s done her best to forget about Zac…until she finds him alive in her kitchen, locked in mortal combat with her son’s nanny.
Like all Black Ops agents, Zac doesn’t exist in any government record. His life is a series of deadly missions, and relationships of any kind are unsanctioned. But he keeps one secret. He watches over Becca, the beautiful daughter of a rogue agent, and Parker, the six-year-old boy he fathered that fateful weekend. When he spots a known assassin in their apartment posing as a nanny, he’s forced to reveal himself and take them to safety… whether Becca likes it or not.
While Becca may have enjoyed his dominance once, bending her to his will again may not be quite so easy. He is determined to keep her safe, however, and if a spanking is required, he is more than willing to oblige. Having Becca over his knee rekindles more than his passion, though; even when the immediate danger has passed, he finds it much more difficult to “ghost out” on his family again. Must he resign himself to protecting those he loves from afar, or can he find a way to be the man Becca needs and longs for, the man who is worthy of her submission and her love?
Publisher’s Note: Safe in His Arms is an erotic romance novel that includes both spankings and sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.
And now for a few notes I jotted down:
While this book was a little more than I usually read in the adult discipline department, the plot or storyline was very good and the characters were well developed and engaging and I’m glad I took the time to read it. I do concede that Becca’s character is certainly not the strongest female lead that I’ve read she still caught my attention and Zac, a Black Ops, loyal and strong hero, what more could you ask for?
How far apart can two characters be? Ex Navy Seal playboy bartender, Beck, and geeky world on my shoulders biochemist Professor Hayden? You can’t get any farther apart. It was easy to see that Hayden needed Beck in her life and I loved the story behind their push pull relationship. You won’t be disappointed if you decide to pick up this book.
